How Could It Be?

You see me,
Trying to breathe,
How could it be?
So long I’ve felt this way.
My eyes ache,
Dark and empty,
How could it be?

And I can’t see any way forward.
I only know what came before me.
When it begins, anticipation,
But then it ends so unexpectedly.

Once safe and strong burning brightly,
